CMP

...stands for Connected Math Program. It is the math curriculum that we use at BRMS and in 8th grade it takes a word problem, real-life situation approach to teaching the basics of algebra. The Connected Math website has a page just for parents that includes the philosophy behind the program as well as tips for helping students at home!

THIS WEEK we began our fourth book, Samples and Populations. Students will embrace their well-deserved break from algebra as we jump right into data and statistics. Since we've also started talking about Westward Expansion in Social Studies, I hope to integrate the two topics and show how the strategies we use in math during this unit will help them to analyze these migrations.

Social Studies

This year's social studies curriculum takes us from the American Revolution through the Civil War. Each unit has its own book from the History of Us series by Joy Hakim. We'll read these books as well as other sources and conduct research projects throughout the year. Need help with a research project? Start here!

THIS WEEK We begin studying the Industrial Revolution. Students will be completing a WebQuest in groups - final products include papers, presentations and skits.
