Team Synergy Weekly Update 9/10/10
09/13/2010 16:00Students on Team Synergy have been busy, busy, busy during this shortened week. Academic classes began in full force this week, sports practices are in full swing (there is even a Cross Country meet at Essex this afternoon), and other extracurricular activities are quickly filling our schedules. Below, find a quick overview of what's been happening in our academic lives and beyond:
In Connected Math, students worked on building class norms and practicing different ways to work together to solve math problems. Effective pair and group strategies will be a skill students work on all year. Next week, the first book of the year, Clever Counting, begins!
In Social Studies, students began a 2-week recap of American Colonization before our first unit on the American Revolution. This mini-unit on colonization focuses on the different European nations involved in exploring and establishing footholds in the Americas, and acts as a review of the major players leading up to the Revolution.
This week in Science, students learned about how scientists accomplish their work. They researched a famous scientist and produced a biography poster. They will continue to practice scientific thinking skills next week.
In Algebra, students began the first lessons of their textbook. They reviewed how to access the online textbook and explored how to make predictions by identifying patterns in numbers.
